Ultrasonic Welding
Ultrasonic welding uses high frequency ultrasonic acoustic vibration applied to plastic mouldings to be welded together. A bespoke jig and welding horn are required for each part to be welded and these are generally manufactured by the supplier of the ultrasonic welding equipment. This process creates heat where bonding is to take place.
Usually a joint is used comprising of a rib section used to direct the energy where it is required. A very strong weld can be achieved by ultrasonic welding. Ultrasonic welding is a clean process and therefore does not contaminate the product so can be carried out in a clean environment. It is a process that is ideal for the fixing together of medical products.
